Please excuse my attempt at having a clever introduction.

Remember when upside down photos were all over social media? Well, of course you do. These photos were, however, taken from Upside Down Museums from different cities. Ever since then, I couldn't wait to have one just like it in Cebu City. That is exactly what we got when Upside Down World Cebu opened their doors to the public on March 23, 2017.

With its accessible location and fun-filled offerings, Upside Down World Cebu is a perfect destination for friends and family.

The Museum

Upside Down World Cebu consists of 11 rooms where you can get your tupsy-turvy fun and have your creative juices flowing. Each room has a theme, mostly rooms we have in our own houses. You can be as creative as you can and let your imagination run wild. Don't worry if you run out of ideas though, their accommodating and friendly staff will be more than happy to suggest some poses and concepts for you.

Guests are requested to take off their shoes before entering the museum to help keep the place clean. A locker where you can store your footwear and other belongings is free to use.

Sensitive and irritated skin will never be in trend. Unfortunately for us, due to our lifestyle and stress that is what most of us end up with. How often do you wish to go back to what your skin looked like when you were younger? Do you wish to repair all damages time have caused? Rovectin, a cosmeceutical skincare brand which comes from luxury cosmetic laboratory in Santa Monica, CA, USA, understands this sentiment.

They recently launched their Cica Care Product Line to target our skin concerns. The Cica Care Line consists of three products: Cica Care Purifying TonerCica Care Balm and the Cica Care Sleeping Pack (review here). I was lucky enough to be chosen by Style Korean to test out some of these products. One of which is the Rovectin CICA Care Purifying Toner.

Rovectin CICA Care Purifying Toner
Rovectin CICA Care Purifying Toner

About the Product

The Rovectin CICA Care Purifying Toner is a gentle toner which refines and soothes irritated skin with madecassoside and panthenol. It enhances skin-related quality of life and tolerability from extremely stressed skin conditions. It is a toner packed with benefits for your tired and damaged skin. This toner not only helps cure damaged and sensitive skin, but its ingredients also help hydrate, whiten, and prevent wrinkles.

Ingredients

Water, Dipropylene Glycol, Propanediol, Methylpropanediol, Glycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, C12-14 Pareth-12, Sodium Citrate, Panthenol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Citric Acid, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Disodium EDTA, Centella Asiatica Extract, Houttuynia Cordata Extract, Salvia Hispanica Seed Extract, Butylene Glycol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Pentylene Glycol, Phosphatidylcholine, Madecassoside, Ceramide NP, Glycine, Glutamic Acid, Serine, Lysine, Alanine, Arginine, Threonine, Proline

Active ingredients and functions:

  • Houttuynia Cordata and Centella Asiatica - soothes and calms allergic skin condition
  • Madecassoside - helps regenerate skin cells to make the skin looks more supple, glowing, and healthy
  • Ceramide and Panthenol - helps strengthen the barrier of the damaged skin

The bottle is so sturdy!

How to Use

Use morning and night, after cleansing. Sweep over face and neck, avoiding eye area.

Price/Where to Buy

1728 PHP or 32 USD at Style Korean. They ship internationally and offer free shipping for a minimum order total cost.

Though it may look pricey, the large size (260ml) compensates for it. Typical toners have 180ml of content at 1200 PHP. Calculating per milliliter:

Rovectin CICA Care Purifying Toner - 1728 PHP/260ml = 6.65 PHP per mL
Other toners - 1200 PHP/180ml = 6.67 PHP per mL
Practically the same right?

Rovectin CICA Care Purifying Toner

My Experience

Packaging

It comes in  a sturdy plastic container that allows proper dispensing of the product. The container is also frosted which elevates the design to a whole new level. All necessary information are printed and clear. The 280ml product content is a lot too! I imagine it'd last me many months.

Scent

I was initially thrown off by the scent. It smells herbal-ly. But now, I have learned to appreciate this. It smells really clean (there is no such scent! haha, you get it). No fragrance is added though, so this is what the ingredients really smell like when combined. Others have indicated a lavender scent, which I honestly don't smell.

Rovectin CICA Care Purifying Toner
My hands are dirty! Haha. I'm eating popcorn while I took this shot.

Texture

The Rovectin CICA Care Purifying Toner is watery - hence, a runny texture. I have to use it using a cotton pad. I waste too much product when I apply it using my palms. It is clear and does not have any additional colors.

Application

Upon application, there is a slight cooling sensation. It absorbs unto my skin quickly, much quicker than my Klairs Supple Preparation Toner. I hate waiting for products to absorb since I am always rushing. I also feel that my skin is instantly hydrated too and that it is ready to absorb the rest of my skin care products.

Rovectin CICA Care Purifying Toner

Results

I noticed that after using this product for a few days, it calmed down the breakouts I had on my skin. Seriously, I have been so sleep deprived these days that breakouts are inevitable. It helped reduce some of the redness I was experiencing in my face as well. It removes impurities and dirt that my cleanser can't. I also feel that it soothes the irritated parts of my skin and is making my skin 'heal'. I find that it's refreshing to use, especially at night. I did not see an effect on brightening and wrinkle prevention though.

My Thoughts

PROS
  • Hypoallergenic
  • No Parabens
  • No added fragrance
  • No Colorant
  • No Mineral Oil
  • Soothes Irritation
  • Contributes to skin healing
  • Absorbs quickly
  • Leaves skin hydrated
  • Calms down breakouts
  • Reduces redness
  • A lot of product with 260ml of content
  • Refreshes the skin
CONS
  • Smells herbal and can be overbearing
  • Needs to be applied using a cotton pad/ball
  • No noticeable brightening effects
  • No noticeable wrinkle prevention effects
  • Very pricey
I generally like the Rovectin CICA Care Purifying Toner. The pros are greater than the cons. I like how it soothes my skin and how it aids my skin's healing process. My breakouts are ever thankful. I also like how it feels refreshing and how it calmed down my pimples. I don't like how runny it is. I still prefer to use my palms in applying toner as cotton pads absorb so much product, which is a waste.

Although the Rovectin CICA Care Purifying Toner is an incredibly great toner, I find that it is also incredibly above my price range, though price is made up for by more product. If I had not been given a chance by Style Korean to try this out, I would never even have considered this. However, Rovectin is such a great brand and I completely support their brand's mission (see here).

Repurchase?

Maybe if it goes on sale, perhaps around 50% off.

Cica, also known as Centella Asiatica, is undoubtedly 2018's beauty product ingredient of the year. Tons of beauty brands released products that creatively features and embraces this trendy ingredient. Rovectin,  a cosmeceutical skincare brand which comes from luxury cosmetic laboratory in Santa Monica, CA, USA, is one of the brands to do so, launching their Cica Care Product Line. The Cica Care Line consists of three products: Cica Care Purifying Toner (review here), Cica Care Balm and the Cica Care Sleeping Pack.

I was lucky enough to be given a chance by Style Korean to test out the Rovectin Cica Care Sleeping Pack. Proceed to the review below to know my thoughts, but first, a brief introduction to Centella Asiatica.

Rovectin Cica Care Sleeping Pack
Rovectin Cica Care Sleeping Pack

What is Centella Asiatica (Cica)?

Cica is also known as Centella Asiatica, Gotu Kola, Indian Pennywort or Wild Violet. Locally, it's referred to as Takip Kohol in the Philippines. Centella is a prostrate, creeping, sparingly hairy or nearly smooth perennial herb, with delicate and slender stems rooting at the nodes. It grows in temperate and tropical swampy areas in many world regions. It is commonly used as a culinary vegetable and as a medicinal herb.

Cica Benefits:

  • It is effective in treating wounds - A study testing the efficacy of Centella Asiatica in wound healing concluded that Asiatica Acid seemed to be the most active component for healing the wound. In India it is better known as the tiger herb, because wounded tigers have been spotted rolling themselves in Centella leaves to help aid healing battle wounds.
  • It has anti-inflammatory properties - A study using titrated extract of Centella asiatica (TECA) treatment showed that it slowed down the development of PA-induced atopic dermatitis.
  • It lightens hyperpigmentation - A study showed that Cica has softened skin lesions, lightened hyperpigmentation and improved of general skin condition of patients.
Honestly, there are a lot more benefits of Cica, but I cannot summarize them all in this post. If you want to know more, visit here, here or here. These sites offers an in depth discussion about what Centella is.

Rovectin Cica Care Sleeping Pack

How to Use

Apply to face and irritated skin area. Suitable for sensitive and dry skin. Apply as often as necessary. Use morning and/or night.

Side note: This is the directions in the tube. I'm a bit hesitant though, it's a sleeping pack which can also be used in the morning? Nonetheless, I only apply this before I go to sleep at the end of my skincare routine.

Price/Where to Buy

1896 PHP or 36.38 USD at Style Korean. They ship internationally and offer free shipping for a minimum total cost.

My Experience

Rovectin Cica Care Sleeping Pack

Packaging

Product comes in a clean and crisp white 80ml tube. I love tubes because it is a very hygienic type of packaging. The tube also has pink accents which adds a welcome splash of color in its aesthetic.  It is simple but attractive. All necessary information is also well displayed and easy to find including the expiration date.

Scent

Just like the Rovectin Cica Care Purifying Toner, it smells herbal-ly. It's like something that my mom could use as an ingredient to cook. Hmmm. Something like lemon-grass, maybe? It's not as strong though, so no worries. I don't mind also because it goes away fairly quickly when the product is absorbed.

Texture

Product comes in a cloudy thick gel consistency. However, once applied onto the skin, it is actually very light-weight.

Rovectin Cica Care Sleeping Pack
Rovectin Cica Care Sleeping Pack is cloudy.

Application

The gel glides smoothly and melts immediately upon application. Product is easily absorbed by the skin, leaving a semi-matte finish. A soothing sensation is also noticeable.

Results

I noticed that as I continue to use this religiously, together with the Cica Care Purifying Toner (review here), the breakouts in my chin area has drastically healed. My skin got irritated when I tried using a product that has Propolis (more on that later) and these products have helped my skin condition get better. I apply this to lock in moisture from the other layers of my skincare routine and I feel that it is doing that well. I wake up having moisturized skin, which is nice. It's also great to note that it does not make me oilier than normal.

Rovectin Cica Care Sleeping Pack

My Thoughts

PROS:
  • No paraben
  • No added fragrance
  • No colorant
  • No mineral oil
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Glides smoothly on application
  • Easily absorbed and is light-weight
  • Soothes irritated skin
  • Helped heal my breakouts
  • Locks moisture in
CONS:
  • Very pricey
  • Smell can be off-putting for some people
Rovectin's Cica Care Sleeping Pack is the very first sleeping pack that I have ever used, so I'm not that much reliable in judging its performance in that aspect. However, I have found that it does lock in moisture which is what a good sleeping mask should be able to do. It also did help heal my breakouts, while also preventing new breakouts from populating my face. Other than that, it didn't really do much for me. I think that there are other sleeping packs that could perform better that actually cost less. I did enjoy using this product though, but I think that I will continue to use it only on problematic areas from now on.

I am extremely thankful to Style Korean for letting me try this product. I would also like to mention that Rovectin is a brand which has a truly great mission: for everyone to feel comfortable in their skin. For them, comfortable skin leads to a more confident life. Who doesn't want that? For more information in the brand and their products, you can visit their website

Repurchase?

Maybe, leaning to not really.

Rovectin is a cosmeceutical skincare brand which comes from luxury cosmetic laboratory in Santa Monica, CA, USA with over 25 years of history. The brand name comes from the Latin word reversi, meaning "to go back to where it was". Rovectin promises that their products are free from irritating ingredients and are especially formulated to sooth and revitalize even the most sensitive skin types.

The brand's philosophy is that skincare is a journey. Your skin does not transform overnight. They also firmly believe that healing is better than hiding so be ready to steer away from the mass quick fix products in the beauty market and dare to join Rovectin's slow skincare revolution

The company began when they developed a calming cream designed to treat sensitive skin of cancer patients from the drying effects of cancer treatments. This calming cream has come to be known as the Rovectin Anti-irritant Barrier Repair Ultra Cream. I was lucky to be given the chance by Style Korean to try this product out.

Rovectin's logo is embossed in the tube but it is not visible in this lighting.

My Experience

Packaging

Rovectin Anti-irritant Barrier Repair Ultra Cream comes in a 50ml tube with a pinkish tone. The color matches the shade of the cream itself, which is a great touch. Packaging makes it hygienic to dispense the product without any problems. The Rovectin logo is also embossed in the tube, classy. Important information is clearly indicated in the box and the tube including the expiration date. I also love that it comes with a leaflet that has a more detailed product description.

Scent

There is no noticeable fragrance which makes this great for scent-sitive people.

Rovectin Anti-irritant Barrier Repair Ultra Cream
Rovectin Anti-irritant Barrier Repair Ultra Cream

Texture

The cream is extremely light-weight. I did not expect it's consistency to be a gel-cream hybrid because it does not look like it at all. It reminded me of the texture of the Klair's Soft Airy UV Essence (review here) which I loved. Shade is beige-pink, a similar shade to the tube.

Application

Rovectin Anti-irritant Barrier Repair Ultra Cream glides smoothly upon application, leaving my face velvety soft. A small amount can cover the entire face. It also absorbs well into the skin so make-up can be applied immediately after. I used this on my full face as a day moisturizer ever since I received it. It doesn't feel oily nor sticky at all.

Rovectin Anti-irritant Barrier Repair Ultra Cream
It comes with a capped nozzle.

Results

After using this for a few weeks, my face seems more hydrated and moisturized throughout the day. I think that my skin has really been healthier and stronger, and this product is the one that I credit for it.  I felt that it has repaired my skin barrier. I probably damaged it using a cleanser with a high pH level daily (which I now learned not to do). No breakouts can be attributed to this. It did not make my face oily nor clogged my pores.  It's seriously so light-weight. Skin really feels velvety soft to the touch. Pores looks slightly smaller too. I did not use any pore minimizing product so this one is probably what has been doing it.

Rovectin Anti-irritant Barrier Repair Ultra Cream

My Thoughts

PROS:
  • Makes skin hydrated and moisturized throughout the day
  • No Carcinogen
  • No Parabens
  • No Fragrance
  • No Colorant
  • Light-weight
  • Not oily or sticky
  • Glides smoothly on application
  • Absorbed quickly by the skin
  • Little goes a long way
  • Makes skin feel healthier and stronger
  • No breakouts
  • Leaves skin velvety soft
  • Has some noticeable pore-minimizing effect
CONS:
  • Very Pricey!
  • Small product content (50ml)
  • Not easily available
Rovectin Anti-irritant Barrier Repair Ultra Cream

I was really scared to fall in love with Rovectin Anti-irritant Barrier Repair Ultra Cream because when I was looking at the price, it's incredibly expensive. I still did though, I fell hard for it. I even gone as far as naming this as my Holy Grail moisturizer. It made my skin condition better. I actually felt a significant impact on my skin's overall health. Seriously, it is the best effecting moisturizer I have ever used.

Due to it's price though, I will only be saving this for special occasions or when my face needs a hydration boost. If you have extremely sensitive skin, the price is definitely worth it as this product does everything it claims to do. Honest products are the best, right? Out of the three products sent over by Style Korean, this is my absolute favorite.

Repurchase?

Yes, if it goes on sale though. *crosses fingers*

Any skin expert would tell you how important it is to wear sun protection. Unfortunately, most people opt to skip it. This is partially because of the lack of good products in the market. Majority of sun protection products are too thick, leaves a white cast, uncomfortable, gives a heavy, sticky and oily feeling and most of all, clogs pores. I, myself, admit that I am guilty of this skin care mortal sin. If you feel the same, then I have some amazing news for you. Klairs, a popular K-beauty brand, recently launched the Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence. It claims to be the "sunscreen that will change the way you feel about sunscreens and UV protection for good". Luckily, I was chosen as one of the first people to get to try it during their launching event. Let's see if it impresses a sunscreen hating freak like me.

About the Product

The Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence SPF 50 PA++++ is an everyday sun protector for sensitive skin. As is it water-based, it holds a gel-type texture to give a soft, weightless and light finish. Also with its high SPF and PA level, it completely guards the skin against UVA, UVB without leaving any greasiness or white cast.

As all Klairs products, this sunscreen is Vegan-friendly and cruelty-free. This also completes their Freshly Juiced Line which includes: Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop (review here) and the Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin E Mask.

Recommended For People Who:

  • Want light, non sticky sunscreen
  • Do not like white cast
  • Have sensitive skin
  • Want to reapply sunscreen over the makeup
  • Do not like to apply sunscreen

Ingredients

Water (Aqua), Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Butylene Glycol, Dibutyl Adipate, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, 1,2-Hexanediol, Glycerin, Niacinamide, Ethylhexyl Triazone, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Silica, Cetearyl Olivate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Sorbitan Olivate, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Methyl Glucose Sesquistearate, Sorbitan Stearate, Panthenol, Beta-Glucan, Disodium EDTA, Citrus Junos Fruit Extract, Adenosine, Sodium Hyaluornate, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tocopherol, Allantoin, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil

The Klairs Philosophy is "Simple, but enough", so this product is only created with the necessary ingredients. Read more about the product ingredients here.

How to Use

Apply liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure and at the end of your skincare routine. Thoroughly apply to the skin. Reapply every 3 hours when exposed to sunlight. (Yes, even on top of your makeup.)

My Experience

Packaging

Just like the other products from the Klairs Freshly Juiced Line, it comes in a minimalist looking white tube with hologram details. I personally like that it looks elegant and simple. The label is a bit off-centered though. I'm not sure if that's just for me or if this was intentional. Whatever, it is no biggie. The product size is also great (80ml), more than any other popular sunscreen.

Scent

I was pleasantly surprised that it had no scent at all. It doesn't have that typical sunscreen smell. Most sunscreens I have tried have a strong chemical-like smell, which is very bothersome. Scent-sitive people will love this.

Texture

Although Klairs describes this to be a gel-type sunscreen, I don't think that's entirely correct. It looks like a cream, but not totally as it absorbs extremely quick. It does not have the same moisturizing/greasy properties of a cream. Maybe a gel-cream hybrid is the perfect description for this.

Application

It applied smoothly on my skin. A small amount could easily cover the entire face. My face absorbed it quickly. I immediately noticed how light it is, it's like I haven't even applied anything. The "Airy" part of its name is definitely correct. This is a plus, especially for people who apply a lot of layers in their skincare routine. It left no white cast and my skin had a semi-matte finish.

Results

The Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence is a very light weight sunscreen, the lightest one I have tried (or probably in existence?). It incorporates well with the rest of my routine and my skin had no negative reactions to it. It's even the other way around, my skin loves it! It sits great under my BB Cream and doesn't make it cake-y or oily. I don't feel hot, greasy or uncomfortable at all. I'm not a hundred percent sure about the brightening effects though. I still use the Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop (see how this worked for me here) and would attribute all brightening effects to it.

My Thoughts

PROS:
  • Is a chemical sunscreen
  • Water-based so it doesn't clog pores
  • Leaves no white cast
  • Extremely lightweight
  • Vegan-friendly and cruelty-free.
  • Is scent-free.
  • Protects against UVA and UVB with SPF 50 PA++++.
  • Recommended for sensitive skin.
  • Can be reapplied over makeup.
  • Comes in an 80ml elegant looking tube.
  • Leaves skin with semi-matte finish.
  • Goes well with other beauty products in your routine.
  • No break-outs or negative reactions.
  • Does not make skin oily or greasy.
CONS:
  • No visible effects on brightening.
Like all Dear, Klairs products I have tried thus far, I am very impressed with the Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence. It is hands down the best sunscreen I have ever tried and completely changed how I feel about sun protection. I feel protected from the sun's harsh rays without being uncomfortable. This is a sunscreen that I would gladly apply all over my face, everyday for the rest of my life. That's how much I am in love with this product. It's like everything I ever hated about sunscreens is eliminated. I highly recommend this to everyone who isn't a fan of applying sunscreen, like me.

Huge props to Klairs on this one. It is clear that they listen and care about their customers' concerns. Don't you just appreciate brands like that? I will always be a fan and I can't wait for whatever they come up with next.
